Unveiled first in 1935, the first Hawker Hurricane RAF squadrons had been formed by 1938. The Hurricane was introduced as a replacement for the RAF's pre-war bi-plane fighters. During the Battle of Britain, the Hurricane proved itself as a highly effective fighter and was credited with the destruction of numerous enemy aircraft.Â
