WW2 German DLV Pilot Observer Wings
WW2 German DLV Pilot Observer Wings made from a silver bullion wire on a luftwaffe blue backing.
The DLV, or Deutsche Luftsports Verband (German Air Sports Organisation) was founded in March 1933 at the behest of Hermann Goring. Since the Treaty of Versailles prohibited Germany from having an air force, the DLV became a cover for training the future Luftwaffe. In fact, much of their insignia was similar to that which the Luftwaffe eventually adopted. The DLV Pilot Observer Wings were awarded upon successful completion of theoretical and practical flight and observer training. These impressive replicas are made from a blue luftwaffe wool backing, with the award design made from a silver bullion wire.
