General's M40 Overseas Side Cap
Excellent reproduction German Army Officers M40 Overseas side cap.
The M40 cap was worn with both field and service dress uniform, as well as part of the “walking out” uniform. Due to its compact nature, when a helmet was more appropriate this cap could be easily stored away for later use. The gold trim indicates that the wearer is a general.
The Schiffchen originates from Scotland, where infantry regiments have used this style of hat since the 1860’s. It was introduced to the Wehrmacht in 1935. The M40 followed the M35 design, and whilst the M43 was introduced, the M40 remained in widespread circulation due to wartime manufacturing limitations.
Quality reproduction Schiffchen side cap made from field grey wool with gold trim and a leather sweatband.
