Black US Pilots A2 leather Jacket - Repro
Great quality reproduction of the iconic WW2 American Airforce A2 black leather flying jacket.
Adopted in the early 1930s for use by the US Army Air Force. Originally they were awarded to officers upon completion of basic flight training, during WW2 they were also issued to enlisted aircrews. The A-2 jackets were treasured by airmen who adorned them with squadron patches, rank marks, and occasionally elaborate artwork depicting the type of aircraft they flew or a copy of the artwork painted on their airplane. Bomber crews would often add small bombs indicating how many missions they had flown.
Although officially no longer issued to new units from 1943, existing units kept ordering new A2 jackets until late 1944. Some pilots kept their A2 jackets until the Korean War.
The popularity of the A-2 led to its reintroduction in 1988 for USAF aviators.
These are accurate in every way featuring knitted elasticated waists and cuffs as well as two snap closing pockets to the front, 2 way YKK zip closing with button down front flap to prevent draughts.
These jackets are made from a durable goats leather.
The lining is 100% cotton, and black in colour.
