Genuine Soviet issue Ushanka wool cap. These caps are new, unissued, made from blue-grey wool. We picked up a batch of these hats from Belarus, ex-Soviet Union where they had been in storage for 25 years. They are military quality, made from a thick wool - the kind that lasts for years! They are in great condition - pretty much mint, though they need to be aired as they have been treated for storage.
We bought these in bulk at a good price, so we can pass on the savings to our customers, and we believe they are a great buy at the price advertised!
A great looking cap, vintage style, you will not get cold in these!! Ideal for the cold outdoors, skiing, hiking or just a trendy winter cap.
Cap can be worn three ways, ear flaps tied up, with ear flaps round the back, or ear flaps tied down to keep the neck warm. Ushi (ear), gave the name to Ushanka, meaning a hat with ears! The flaps have three small buttons on each side which are for attaching a mask, used when on guard duty and temperatures drop well below sub zero, and also for attaching a kind of chemical warfare mask which translates from Russian as a type of curtain! Caps have factory stamps inside, which shows size, year and name of factory, and also OTK, which are the initials of the Soviet Quality Control Department, which guarantees the quality.
We also have matching blue-grey wool greatcoats from the same storage depot here, and a range of Soviet badges here.
